Species text
This is a rare hoverfly found in a few locations in the fens and marshes of East Anglia and in south Essex. There is a strong association with reed sweet-grass (Stubbs & Falk, 2002). Larvae of this genus are of the rat-tailed maggot type and live in pools and ditches where decaying vegetation accumulates. The margins of ditches and ponds provide breeding sites. References
