Species text
This mason wasp is widely scattered in Britain but is commoner in the north and west and especially by the sea. Archer (2000) notes a recent significant decline nationally. It is rare in Essex, with few records and, unusually, has the majority of its known locations in the north of the county. It often builds cells on rocks but also occasionally in cut stems. The wasp usually preys on small caterpillars but also sometimes on chrysomelid larvae. References
