Species text
This wasp is widespread across southern England, but the relative lack of records since 1970 suggests it has undergone a decline and that its status may need revision (Edwards & Telfer, 2001). The species is very rare in Essex, with only three other records from two nearby sites, now destroyed. The wasp is aerial nesting, the nest being made in hollowed out, dead, bramble stems. It provisions the nest with weevil larvae (Hypera). It seems to like woodland edges. References
