Essex Red Data List comment
Marked national decline reflected in Essex in long term population decline since at least 1980. Although range has not contracted populations have undergone a serious decline accelerating since 1990. At Hainault Forest population fell from 20 pairs in 1970s to 17 pairs in 1987 and only 2 – 3 pairs by 2000.
