Species text
Mutilla europaea is a Nationally Scarce (Notable B) parasitoid of bumblebees and most Essex records are from rough grassland or unmanaged areas where bumblebees are able to nest in good numbers. Falk (1991b) states that open habitats are favoured, especially heathland and disturbed sandy situations, but there are a wide variety of recorded habitats. References
