Opomyza punctata is a small fly with spotted wings. Records are widely scattered in England, with about twenty known post-1960 sites (status review in prep.). In Essex it has been recorded from the Lower Lee, Roding Meadows and West Thurrock. The larvae of this family develop in the stems of grasses although the host plant is not known. It has been caught in Dactylis dominated areas, but also from Arrhenatherum-dominated sward on coastal dunes. References
