Species text
Poecilobothrus ducalis is a small dancefly recorded from Essex, Kent, Sussex and Somerset. It is known from only eight sites recently in Britain. It is found by saltmarsh pools and also brackish ditches in levels marshes. The adults fly are found on patches of mud beside these pools and ditches where they are predators of small insects. The larvae may be predatory in mud beside saline pools and ditches. It is important to retain mud banks of low gradient associated with saline ditches, currently achieved at some sites by cattle poaching the edges of borrowdykes. References
