Species text
Saldula opacula is clearly very local and records are predominantly from Scotland and the south-eastern coastal counties of England. In Essex it is a species of moderately to strongly brackish water margins, where it is usually found on the ground amongst vegetation. It has proved, in recent years, to be a rather characteristic species of brackish ditch margins, where it is often found amongst sea club-rush, Bolboschoenus maritimus. Indeed, the frequency of its occurrence in Essex and some other counties in recent years make it clear that it has been widely overlooked or mis-identified in the past (Kirby, in Essex Red Data List).
