Species text
Tiphia femorata is locally common in southern Britain, northwards to Yorkshire where it is very rare. In Essex it has only been found in the East Thames Corridor, where it may be frequent in suitable habitat, and on Thames Terrace sands and gravels in the Colchester area. It is a parasitoid on scarabaeid beetle larvae. The female nests in sandy ground, burrowing into the soil to find the larval host (usually well matured) in its cell (Edwards & Telfer 2001). Adults are often found on umbellifer flowers, especially Carrot Daucus carota. References
