Species text
Tipula peliostigma is recorded widely in southern England, with some seven known and widely scattered post 1960 sites. It occurs in woods and hedgerows and has been reared from birds nests including robin and blackbird, but it is not clear whether this is a major or subsidiary larval habitat and there are other records referring to their occurrance in damp woodland soil (Falk, 1991a).
