Single Essex record (1933 London Naturalist). Genuinely rare.

Species text
This picture winged fly is listed in the Essex Red Data List as a species with a single Essex record (1933 London Naturalist). It is genuinely rare in the county, and its occurrence during the current survey represents the first modern and localised record. It is not accorded status in Falk (1991), but is listed as (Nationally) Scarce in MapMate. The Recorder species account states that the fly is widespread and fairly common in southern Britain as far north as Yorkshire. The larvae live within the swollen flower heads of Hieracium murorum or Picris hieracoides. References
