Galleywood Common
Visited Pond (P3), TL704025 on 26 June 2008. Collected a sedge that I was not familiar with which turned out to be Wood club-rush Scirpus sylavatica. Has been recorded at Galleywood Common before (Jermyn) but was not recorded in 1982 (Essex WT) or in 1995 (Essex Field club). Quite a lot of it growing around the pond margins.

Your post reminded (and surprised) me that the Common Toad is now a priority UKBAP species, added in the latest review http://www.ukbap.org.uk/NewPriorityList.aspx Wed 25th June 2008 16:21 by Mel Jackson Bridge Common Toad (Bufo Bufo)
Note that this is a UKBAP species and was pleased to discover one today in our garden. Garden is small (approx 20ft x 20ft) but has a variety of habitats.
Today's sighting was late morning and the toad was beside the pond, hopped in when I inadvertantly scared it, and stayed there for about 15 mins. Was still there when I moved off.
The pond has a healthy frog population although no spawn seen. |
