Forestry Commission woodland open to the public.
locate Colne Point
A few other coastal Essex sites have some shingle banks, and several others have tracts of sandy ground. However, no other location has such extensive dune, shingle ridges, the mix of shingle, sand and mud substrates and the gradation of saltmarsh onto these drier habitats.

A country park with an ancient landscape and important wood pasture, but overmanaged grasslands. There is a large lake with a dam and extensive woodlands in the northern part, with several planted copses of various conifers. There are several car parks around the boundary and also footpaths. This Park is managed by Essex.

A disused sand pit with an important invertebrate fauna, including a parasitic fly known from nowhere else in Britain.

A privately owned deer park with ancient origins and a uniquely important wildlife site in Essex.

A remarkable south facing landslip scarp with some rare invertebrates.
locate Hunts Hill, Belhus Woods Country Park
Old sand workings with sand exposures, flower rich areas, a small area of lichen heath, sparsely vegetated ground and lakes. Drought stressed oaks occur at several locations at the site. Access by car is via BWCP car park (which see), but footpaths are also close by.
