We are interested in all decorated tiles, whether inlaid
or otherwise decorated to produce a similar visual
effect, bearing patterns moulded in relief or counter-
relief, or oddly-shaped, having once formed part of a
tile mosaic.
Tiles in the collections of the museums of the County,
and those in Passmore Edwards Museum, those from recent
major archaeological excavations, and those noted by the
Royal Commission on
Historical Monuments in
situ in buildings, mostly
churches, have been
examined. If anyone knows
of others, or of the
present location of those
noted by the Royal Commission in South Benfleet, Gesting-
thorpe, or Shopland Churches (the latter demolished some
years ago), I should be glad to hear from them as soon as
possible.

SHOWS 1975
We have held a number of exhibitions and exhibited at
several shows this year. Over Easter we had a Temporary
Exhibition lasting a month in the Chelmsford Museum, for
which we express our thanks to the Museum both for the
space and for their able assistance. A two week display
on wildlife in Essex was held in the Maldon Museum.
The Dagenham Town Show again proved our most elaborate
and extensive display, part being devoted to a pond with
frogs and newts surrounded by banks and stuffed animals
and part to a sale of goods for the Essex Naturalists
Trust. The Ingatestone Show was the usual success while
at the same time David Corke and company were doing
their stuff at the Writtle Show.
These shows and displays could not have been put on
without the assistance of many members. While I cannot
hope to mention all of those who took part, Frank Smith
must be mentioned for his Stirling work both in pre-
