BOXING DAY RAMBLE 1975
Sixteen members and friends met at Bentley
Village Club at the start of our Ramble. We walked
about 3/4 of a mile up part of the old Ongar Road
passing several cottages which are between 500-400
years old, being constructed to the typical wooden
pattern. We were able to have a quick look in at
Pilgrim Hall and learn something about its history
from notes supplied by the son of a previous owner.
Many shoots were in progress and helped make the wild
life scarce. Then we walked through Mores Wood with
the permission of the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson of
Pantile Hall.
We saw much evidence of deer, several fungii were
pointed out to the party by the interested members.
Litter collection trays were also noted. Leaving
Mores Wood we wended our way along to Navestock side
to the "Green Man", to see cricketing momentos of
the Essex County Cricket Club and to have our packed
lunch. We also passed a somewhat over-grown pond
where one of the party remembered that the horses
were watered when pulling wagonettes to Ongar. '
