Finally the way approaches the A 12, Dedham
church appearing again before the road is crossed
by a bridge. We paused to look at Dedham
Vale Hotel before walking down a steep footpath
to the banks of the River Stour. We completed
our walk strolling along the banks of the Stour
guided by the 131 feet high tower of the cloth
merchants' church, which had been our objective
for so long. We completed our walk in
admiration of Constable's landscape.

THE MYXOMYCETES - THE FUNGUS ANIMALS
During the first half of this century the
myxomycetes featured regularly in the literature
of the Essex Field Club. The Fungus Forays
at that time took the form of Cryptogamic Forays
with reports on finds of fungi, myxomycetes,
mosses and liverworts being given at the teas which
usually ended such meetings The club's experts
on the myxomycetes for close on fifty years were
Arthur Lister, a brother of Lord Lister of
antiseptic surgery fame, and his daughter,
Gulielma Lister. They established themselves
as world authorities on the subject, writing
