After a very successful, sunny afternoon's bird
watch, members returned home tired but con-
tented, hoping that the remainder of the Bird
Group excursions would prove equally
successful. Let's hope so!
MARGARET VERNON
BIRD GROUP MEETING, SALCOTT AND ABBERTON
RESERVOIR, SUNDAY 19TH FEBRUARY, 1989
Salcott
Six members met at Salcott Church on a dry,
fairly mild morning. We traversed the
slippery, muddy track across the field to the
raised bank, hoping that conditions would
improve underfoot for the remainder of the day.
Unfortunately, this year the Harrier escaped
our view and only a couple of members glimpsed
a Merlin which skimmed low across a field.
However, it was a pleasant walk and produced a
total of 29 species as follows:-
Greenfinch, Moorhen, Starling, Song Thrush,
Fieldfare, Sparrow (H.), Magpie, Curlew, Brent
Goose, Yellowhammer, Lapwing, Black-headed
