78 APPENDIX. time heard, from too good authority, that though the parishes of Sheen and Mortlake are in the midst of above one hundred acres of waste land, there is no prospect of any allotments of land being provided for the poor. This surely shows the necessity of this system becoming the act of Government. (See note in page 14 of this Letter.) It is expected, that the next Friends' Society Publication will take due notice of this, and the cause of the failure ; and also Putney and Fulham, where it is well known, that the benevolent Bishop of London has offered any quantity of land for the purpose.
