locate Heydon Roadverge
Calcareous grassland verge with rich flora, a small oasis in an arable landscape. A nearby small chalk pit is also important at approx. TL432409. Although in modern Cambridgeshire, these are both in Vice County 19 (North Essex).

An extensive area former grazing marshes with very old landfill and a unique Thames foreshore.

A disused sand pit with an important invertebrate fauna, including a parasitic fly known from nowhere else in Britain.

locate Chafford Gorges Nature Park
Chafford Gorges Nature Park is situated in Chafford Hundred in Essex. The area was formerly chalk quarries but now is an excellent site for wildlife.

Largest remaining area of grazing marsh on the Essex side if the Thames, with a range of high quality grassland and wetland habitats.

Containing over 70 plots, this is one of three allotment sites in Maldon.
