Species text
This is an infrequent picture winged fly, with records from Southern England and an isolated record from Yorkshire. In Falk (1991) there were only post 1960 records from Kent, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Surrey. Habitat preferences are unclear, with records including chalk downland, commons and marshes. The larvae develop in the root stock and stem bases of goats-beard Tragopon pratensis. Management should maintain strong populations of the host plant and use rotational grazing on larger sites.
