Robin

Erithacus rubecula Copyright: Gareth Kelly

The Robin (European Robin Erithacus rubecula) is a small bird found across the UK in woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens. It is the UK's favourite bird and with its bright red breast it is familar throughout the year. Males and females look identical, but young birds have no red breast and are spotted with golden brown. Robins feed on worms, seeds, fruits and insects, but despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders.
