We will search for and learn to identify the different species in the field. The course is suitable both for beginners and those with a bit more experience who would like to see some less common species. The course will be led by Yvonne Couch of the Essex Field Club, in partnership with the RSPB, and there will be a small charge for all participants, which includes reserve entrance fee. We will only be able to confirm the field trip dates about a month in advance, due to the late advertising of firing times. The meeting place is at the army post on Mersea Road - TM005229. The site is diverse, with large areas of acid grassland, gorse and broom scrub, and a patch of relict heath. The site is most noted for its Hymenoptera, but the invertebrate and other interest is known to be very high generally.
