Species text
Records are widely dispersed in England, Wales and Scotland, but it is a very local species with about 25 known post 1960 sites. In Essex when the Essex Red Data list was prepared in 2002, there were 3 recent records, very scattered, Fobbing Marsh (grazing marsh), Maldon (saltmarsh) and Tilty (semi-improved grassland). It is found mainly on brackish coastal marshes, including saline marsh along tidal rivers. Larvae are probably aphidophagous and adults are known to visit a range of flowers.A natural hydological regime should be maintained, with a full succession or mosaic of vegetation types including pools, ditches and their marginal vegetation (Falk, 1991).
