Summary: Area of four former agriculture fields unused since 1980s, now owned and managed as a nature reserve and Epping Forest buffer land by City of London Conservators and by Epping Town Council. Free public access. Description: Semi-mature woodland, scrub, wildflower meadows, streams, pond, ancient hedgrows Reason for interest: Home to variety of species: Invertebrates - 27 Butterflies, 22 Bugs, 96 Moths, 37 Ants, Bees & Wasps, 26 Beetles, 9 Spiders, 169 Flies, 6 Mites (8 species Essex red-listed); Plants - 123 Wildflowers, 27 Grasses, Sedges and Ferns, 23 Trees, 37 Fungi (5 species Essex red-listed); Birds - 84 species recorded to date (22 red-listed, 17 amber-listed Birds of Conservation Concern) Comment: Popular for dog-walkers, nature-lovers and for local schools environmental classes.
