Species text
This species is steadily increasing in abundance. Its primary larval foodplants are cuckooflower (Cardamine pratensis) and Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata), but others are used, including Hoary Cress (Lepidium draba) on sea walls. There is one brood each year in the spring and most of its life-cycle is spent in the pupal state (10 months). Only the males display the conspicuous orange wing tips and once warmed, will search tirelessly for females, which are much more sedentary. References
