Species text
Very little is known about this solitary wasp, and although it is not accorded any official national status, the map provided in the BWARS Spring 2006 newsletter, in preparation for the publication of Atlas 7, shows 24 post 1969 10km square records and no records north of the Severn estuary and it should clearly be accorded Nationally Scarce status. Archer, in the BWARS Autumn 2007 newsletter, allocates an Archer status of Rare to the species. This status corresponds to those species with records from 16 to 30 10km squares, 1970 onwards (i.e. equivalent to Scarce A). Lomholdt (1975-6) states that very few specimens are known from Fennoscandia and that this is a rare and scattered species in Central, East and South Europe. The wasp is considered probably to have a single flight period in mid-summer, and the prey is likely to be a range of small Diptera in a similar manner to other small Crossocerus species. It is likely to nest in cavities in dead wood. References
