Species text
Lejogaster tarsata (=splendida) is a metallic coloured hoverfly, mainly coastal in distribution from North Wales to Suffolk, but also with a few more northerly records in Skye, Inverness-shire and Aberdeenshire and inland in Berks, Cambs and Aberdeenshire. Most confirmed records are from the fringes of coasts and estuaries. It has been found beside mildly brackish ditches on coastal levels, in brackish coastal marsh at the transition to freshwater and at fen flushes and lakeside marsh close to the coast (Stubbs & Falk 2002). Larvae are said to have been reared from decaying vegetation of a floating mat of Typha in an old pond. Adults are found visiting flowers, and in marginal vegetation. References
