Species text
The Southern Oak Bush-cricket Meconema meridionale was first recorded in Britain at three separate localities in southern England in the autumn of 2001. It is a species from the Mediterranean region of southern Europe whose range has been extending northwards over the last 40 years. Many specimens have been found on and around houses and others seen on cars. It is probable that this flightless species is being carried to new areas on motor vehicles (Hawkins, op. cit.).
