Species text
Philonthus confinis was formerly confused under Philonthus varians (Paykull, 1789). It has only been known from a single example in Great Britain recorded in 1902 at Burnham Beeches, Buckinghamshire. This is therefore only the second British record for the beetle, but it belongs to a group in which there is much taxonomic confusion and it has probably been overlooked elsewhere (P. Hammond, pers. comm.). References
