Essex Red Data List comment
cleptoparasite on Lasioglossum spp.

Species text
Sphecodes crassus is a small black and red cuckoo bee, cleptoparasitic on Lasioglossum spp. especially L. nitidiusculum and L. parvulum. Females are very difficult to distinguish from the related S. geoffrellus (fasciatus), therefore its status and distribution is unclear. However it does currently seem to be widespread in the East Thames Corridor. References
