This rove beetle had previously been recorded from Glamorgan and Anglesey in the period since 1969 (Hyman & Parsons, 1994). Peter Hammond (pers. comm.) has UK records for only 7 other 10-km squares, 4 of them in Wales and 3 in southern England. It is a little-understood species that is difficult to identify and can be confused with other members of the genus. The species seems to go for open sandy situations (often on or near the coast) where there is plenty of sun. References
