Essex Red Data List comment
parasite on dung beetle larvae

Species text
The larvae of this wasp are probably parasitoids of dung beetle larvae. It is widespread but very local in southern England north to Herefordshire and Norfolk and also found in Wales (Recorder species account). In Essex there are scattered records in the south and west of the county, but it is generally a scarce species. It was found in some numbers during the current survey. Records include heathland, downland and other types of grassland, wooded situations (probably the margins or open rides and clearings) and coastal dunes. Adults have been recorded from a variety of habitats including heathland, woodland and downland and have been seen visiting umbellifer flowers. It is occasionally numerous at a site, but this is less frequent than earlier in the last century (Falk, 1991b). References
