Species text
Centromerus capucinus is rare, occurring in a small number of sites mainly in south-eastern England. The preferred habitat of this species is the litter layer of broad-leaved woodland although it has been found in other habitats, for example in arable fields, sandy grassland, grazing marsh grassland and under-cliffs. In common with other species in the genus it is probably a winter-active species in Britain (Harvey et al. 2002). In Essex it has been found only in sandy Thames Terrace grassland at West Tilbury, old grazing marsh grassland at Fobbing, soft-rock undercliffs at Walton Naze and at Howlands Marsh. References
