Species text
Records for this species are scattered throughout England and it is also recorded from South Wales. Although widespread, this appears to be a local species, with about fifteen known post-1960 sites (Falk & Crossley, 2005). Habitat preferences are unclear, records being from woods and more open habitats such as chalk grassland and fen. Adults are found running amongst ground vegetation or, more rarely, over the surfaces of leaves on bushes where they search for small insects upon which they prey. Management should retain and ensure a continuity of features such as dead wood, old or diseased trees, and marshy areas, any of which may support breeding sites, open rides and clearings should be maintained in woods.
