Essex Red Data List comment
cleptoparasite on Lasioglossum xanthopum

Species text
This species is a cleptoparasite of the much declined halictine bee Lasioglossum xanthopus. The host is a large attractive mining bee known to occur on coastal landslips, calcareous grasslands and disturbed situations (Falk, 1991). In Essex the host is rare and associated with old flower rich grasslands, and S. spinulosus has only been recorded where there are large host populations, at Wakering and Barling, an old sand pit in Colchester and at Anchor Field, West Thurrock. Species account provided by P.R.Harvey 2007. References
