Species text
Centromerus capucinus is rare, occurring in a small number of sites mainly in south-eastern England. The preferred habitat of this species is the litter layer of broad-leaved woodland although it has been found in other habitats, for example in arable fields, sandy grassland, grazing marsh grassland and under-cliffs. In common with other species in the genus it is probably a winter-active species in Britain (Harvey et al. 2002). In Essex it has been found only in sandy Thames Terrace grassland at West Tilbury, old grazing marsh grassland at Fobbing and Hadleigh Country Park, soft-rock undercliffs at Walton Naze and at Howlands Marsh.
