Essex Red Data List comment
Decline noted nationally has affected Essex particularly inland populations since the late 1980s. It has now disappeared from many occupied tetrads inland in the SW and central Essex where it was widespread in the Atlas. Hainault, Fairlop population fell from over 25 singing males in 1960s to only 12+ singing males by late 1990s. The Berwick Ponds population of ca25 singing males in the late 1980s had almost disappeared by the late 1990s.
