Late bumblebees
This morning I saw a queen buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) foraging on a Buddleja x weyeriana in our office garden, despite a chilly start to the day.

The new Essex Naturalist has arrived this morning! Looks good, I think. Make sure you collect your copy at the annual Exhibition and Social this coming Saturday!

This year it contains 180 text pages and 16 colour pages with 38 plates, and we hope it presents a good range of contributions.

Please start thinking about what you can contribute for next year's issue.

During the last week, I have found harvest mouse nests at TL760090, TL755080 and TL742056 along the lane linking Boreham and Sandon.  On 23rd November, two further nests were found at TL682146, between Great Waltham and Pleshey.

In addition, a common pipistrelle was found roosting (hibernating?) in a barn near Writtle.

Saw a queen Bombus terrestris Buff-tailed bumblebee at 7.50am this morning on Mahonia flowers. It was very cold with frost on the ground.
