The Essex Field Club is very pleased to welcome members and the public to our centre in the Green Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park at Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, Basildon, Essex SS16 4UH. This is the culmination of an aspiration born in the early 1990s when the Club had to step in after the closure of the Passmore Edwards Museum in Stratford and save the collections our members had accumulated over the Club's long history since 1880.

Our centre is available for visits on a pre-booked basis on Wednesdays between 10am - 4pm. The Club’s activities and displays are also usually open to the public on the first Saturday of the month 11am - 4pm.

In our Showcase area we have four computer stations accessible to the public and members, where you can access our website, Powerpoint presentations on various topics and other facilities, including in the longer term electronic access to the many items in our collections. We have a number of mobile glass-topped display cabinets in which we display topical exhibits, several large panels for displaying a rotation of natural history topics, and racks with pamphlets and natural history literature.

We have resources available for children and hope to expand on the range of activities we provide. There are also two large screens which show short PowerPoint presentations on themes of interest such as wild plants of Essex, the earliest Humans in Essex, tsunamis in the North Sea and English Channel, elephants in Essex, bees and wasps in Essex, spiders in Essex, brownfield sites and more.

We have a well-appointed office where we can answer queries, offer information, sell books, enter data into our databases and so much more.  We also have the use of a large teaching room to enable us to put on specialist courses in identification and general ecology.

We would be very pleased to see you at the Green Centre (see map below). If you would like more information or might be able to help us at the centre, please contact .
