Species text
The ground beetle is widespread but local in England. It is difficult to identify and may be confused with other members of the genus, consequently, the exact status of this species is hard to assess. It occurs in calcareous grassland, open ground on chalky soils, coastal shingle and the drier parts of saltmarshes. It is phytophagous, feeding mainly on seeds. Adults probably occur under stones or at the roots of vegetation. Management should aim at maintaining open conditions and encouraging early successional stages. References
