Species text
Lasioglossum cupromicans and L. smeathmanellum form a species-pair in Britain with a largely allopatric distribution, L. cupromicans totally replacing L. smeathmanellum in Scotland and Ireland, and mainly so at higher altitudes and on moorland in north Wales, northern England, the Midlands and the south-west peninsula (e.g. Dartmoor) (Else, 2002). L. cupromicans is rare in lowland Britain, but it has been found in several sites near the Thames in south Essex in post-industrial habitats, nearly all now destroyed. The bee is considered Vulnerable in the county and possibly endangered. References
