Essex Red Data List comment
cleptoparasite on Lasioglossum morio

Species text
Sphecodes niger is found in the south of England on chalk grassland, clay cliffs and disturbed situations on light soils. It is a parasite of bees in the genus Lasioglossum, L. morio being the probable host species. There are scattered records across most of Essex, mostly from the East Thames Corridor. The larvae of S. niger use the nest and larval food of the host. References
