Site name: Bartlow Road Chalk Pit, Ashdon

Brief description of site:

Chalk pit west of Waltons Park which formerly exposed junction between Chalk and boulder clay. The section was illustrated in Osborne White (1932). The boulder clay was said to contain derived Jurassic fossils and ice-scratched boulders. The Chalk was described as blocky chalk with scattered flints. Some fossils were found in the Chalk. In the western half of the pit the Chalk was described as œcovered by a beautiful example of contorted drift (Anon. 1913).

The pit has been largely infilled.
