Brentwood Bypass Drainage Trench TQ 609 961 to TQ 615 963

A drainage trench in the London Clay on north side of the Brentwood bypass near Shenfield yielded over 25 species of fossils to John Cooper and Adrian Rundle in June 1966. Approximately 1 metre thickness of London Clay was exposed in the floor of the trench.

Bristow et al (1980) raises the possibility that the section may have been at the base of the Claygate Beds.

A comprehensive report on the site was published in the Proceedings of the Geologists Association (Cooper & Rundle 1969).
