A lower jaw of the aurochs Bos primigenius (wild cattle) was found on 4th August 1975 in Pleistocene silt excavated from a depth of 9 metres on the M11 motorway excavations at Roding Lane, Chigwell (TQ 4302 9385). The specimen is now in the Essex Field Club collection. (G.R.Ward “ personal communication).
