Site category: Thames (pre-diversion)

Site name: Colemans Farm Gravel Quarry

Grid reference: TL 834153

Brief description of site:

Colemans Farm Quarry is a working gravel quarry. The quarry works gravels that form a terrace of the River Blackwater. These gravels are mostly derived from the Kesgrave Sands and Gravels that were laid down by a former course of the Thames. Consequently they contain an interesting suite of ‘exotic' pebbles from far afield such as jasper and fossil wood, plus more local rocks such as ‘iridescent’ ferricrete.

Access to the quarry is only available with permission from the quarry operators.
