Elsenham Spring Water Factory

Grid reference: TL 5504 2534

Elsenham Artesian Spring Water is bottled at source in a modern factory at Elsenham. Elsenham Water has positioned itself at the luxury premium end of the market, selling through exclusive distributors to top hotels, restaurants, and boardrooms worldwide.

Elsenham Water is drawn from a borehole into the Chalk aquifer and is claimed to be an artesian borehole, in other words the water is under sufficient natural pressure to rise up the borehole and overflow at the surface.

According to the companys website the original borehole was sunk in 1890 and provided the drinking water for the area, and extended in 1919. This then lapsed in the 1960s and was re-discovered with the help of geological teams with new drilling, opening up the borehole in 2000. A state of the art building has been built over the borehole. Which was completed in 2004.

A Water Café is incorporated within the building, open to the public with its own separate entrance. Inside there are glass viewing windows open onto the bottling hall through which the bottling process can be seen.
