Site category: Building or wall St. Mary's Church, Lawford This fourteenth century church commands a memorable view of the upper Stour estuary. Norman Scarfe in his Shell Guide (1968) claims that the west tower has the 'richest patchwork of building materials in Essex' with septaria, ferricrete and flint mixing with freestone and various shades of red brick.
