Ballingdon Hill Sand Pit (site of)

A large pit in glacial sands was in existence here in the early 20th century. Beautiful sections in current-bedded sands, at least 40 feet (12 metres) in thickness, were then visible overlain by 5 feet (1.5 metres) of chalky boulder clay (till).

The pit was visited by the Geologists' Association just before the First World War.

The site appears to be alongside the Essex/Suffolk border on the Suffolk side.
