Site category: Holocene deposit

Site name: St Germanus Church, Faulkbourne

Grid reference: TL 8003 1657

Brief description of site:

The building is of geological interest because of the extensive use of local tufa (travertine) for dressings.

The tufa was quarried from several sites nearby. Stone suitable for building is extremely rare in Essex.
